Behind the Business – TPH Newmarket
For many businesses, a printed piece is often the final step before an idea meets the world. It might be a sign that guides guests through an event, a program that marks a milestone, a direct mail campaign that reaches thousands of homes, or a set of branded materials that helps a company show up with confidence.
At TPH Newmarket, that final step is where the work becomes personal.
The Printing House, known widely as TPH, was founded in 1961 and has grown into a Canadian owned and operated family business with a national network of connected production centres. In Newmarket, General Manager Christina Stark sees the local TPH team as more than a print provider. She sees them as a partner in helping businesses, organizations, and community groups bring ideas to life with speed, care, and creativity.
“Many people are surprised to learn that we do far more than print on paper,” says Stark. “We can print on most things and decorate it for our client.”
That range is part of what makes TPH Newmarket a practical resource for local businesses. The team produces everyday essentials such as stationery and communication materials, along with high-demand items like foamcore signage, directional signage, event collateral, wallcoverings, apparel, and large-format pieces. For clients, the value is not only in the final product, but in having one place that can help translate a marketing or event vision into something tangible.
Turning creative ideas into real-world impact
Some of the most memorable projects are the ones that begin with a big idea and a lot of unanswered questions.
Stark points to the custom stage letters TPH Newmarket produced for the Central York Chamber’s SHIFT Leadership Summit as one example. It was not an everyday request, but it reflected the kind of specialty work the team enjoys: taking a concept and figuring out how to make it work in the real world.
Projects like that require more than simply sending a file to print. The team needs to understand where the piece will be used, how large it needs to be, what kind of impact it should have, how it will stand or move, and which materials will provide the right balance of durability, appearance, and practicality. Sometimes that means building a prototype, testing materials, and adjusting the design along the way.
For Stark, that problem-solving process is part of the appeal.
TPH Newmarket also supported the Southlake Gala in October 2025 by producing invitations and programs for the event. Stark describes the project as a meaningful collaboration: the design and concept came from the client, while the TPH team helped bring the vision to life for an important local cause.
Service built on partnership
In an industry where deadlines can be tight and details matter, customer service plays a major role in TPH Newmarket’s work.
Stark says the company’s national reputation for speed, quality, and people-first service helped open doors when the Newmarket location launched. Many customers already knew the TPH name from previous jobs, personal projects, or experiences with other locations. The goal locally is to deliver that same trusted experience while building strong relationships in the community.
“I love being a partner,” says Stark. “I want my clients to look good. I thrive on making that happen, when they need it to happen.”
That mindset is especially important when timelines are challenging. Whether a client needs event materials, signage, branded apparel, or a last-minute communication piece, the TPH Newmarket team focuses on helping customers meet the moment.
Quality starts with the process
Behind every finished project is a production process designed to keep work organized, accurate, and aligned with client expectations.
Each project begins with a work order that follows the job through production. Team members apply quality checks at each stage, and specialists are responsible for the output within their departments. For more complex work, prototyping and ongoing communication help ensure the customer and production team are aligned before the final piece is completed.
For Stark, that attention to detail is essential because print is often highly visible. A sign, invitation, program, or branded item does not simply represent the printer. It represents the customer.
Innovation in a changing industry
Like many sectors, the print industry is being shaped by fast-moving technology. TPH has long leaned into innovation, and Stark says the company continues to explore tools that can improve accuracy, streamline production, and make work more efficient for both employees and clients.
Technology may be changing the way print projects are produced, but the core purpose remains the same: helping customers communicate clearly and professionally.
At TPH Newmarket, innovation is not only about new equipment or software. It is about finding better ways to deliver great work with care.
Supporting the community through what they do best
TPH Newmarket also stays connected locally by supporting community events and organizations. The team often sponsors initiatives or provides printing support, helping events reduce costs so that more funds can go directly toward the cause.
For Stark, the most rewarding moments are often the simplest ones: a customer opening a box at the front counter, seeing a brochure or poster for the first time, and lighting up because the finished piece matches the vision they had in mind.
Those moments are a reminder that print still has a powerful role to play in business and community life.
What’s next for TPH Newmarket
Looking ahead, TPH Newmarket is focused on growth. Plans include expanding the location’s large-format print offering and building out a small design studio on the second floor to complement its current printing services.
For local businesses and organizations, that means more ways to turn ideas into finished materials under one roof.
From a single T-shirt to a 10,000-piece variable direct mail order, no two days at TPH Newmarket look exactly the same. That variety is one of the things Stark enjoys most about the work.
“It keeps things interesting,” she says. “No two days are ever the same, and I love that I am always learning and being challenged in my role.”
